It’s that time of year where many parents are preparing to send children off to college either for the first time or the fifth time. It will be our first time! We as the parents are super excited for this next step of parenthood. It’s another marker in the journey of our life. Our child on the other hand is not so excited. They are actually scared.
How can we help them over the next couple weeks to help them succeed for their first year? Well, I have been thinking about this for awhile now. Yesterday while I was at church, these simple instructions popped into my head. Send them with the Word. I knew exactly what this meant.
I am going to go through the Word and write down scripture to help encourage them while they are down there. Verses to help with anxiety, fear, and trust. Our Pastor yesterday gave the teens of our church some valuable instruction. He was encouraging them to be wise as managing, conquering, and mastering our time, our material items, and our physical health.
Now better words can be spoken right now in this day and age for our young people. The keys to success are definitely in that instruction. How often do we waste time? How often do we squander material possessions? How often do we abuse our physical health? As a young or older person we are all guilty of this.
So… While we reflect on these things shared I know how I want to send to my child off to college. Not only will I go get the essentials of linens, first aid kit, snacks, and of course deodorant. But with some of the most important words ever written. Of course my prayer is that they reflect on the words during their most difficult and joyful times.
